The impressive performance from the new Mazda-6 will definitely impress. It has a fine four-cylinder diesel engine which also gives great fuel economy. The exterior looks very good and the interior does not disappoint. It is a car that lends itself not just to private use, but also as a company fleet vehicle. This is especially true of the basic 148bhp diesel model, which not only is the most efficient engine of the Mazda-6 range, it is also a reasonable price at £21,995 and comes well equipped with the touchscreen infotainment system and air-conditioning as standard.
One down-side with this car is the rather hard ride, however this can be minimised by keeping the 17-inch wheels. The compensation for this inconvenience is great and the choice of engines; from the 2.0-litre petrol to the 2.2 litre diesel, comes down to personal taste. Both have a six-speed manual gearbox fitted as standard, although the 2.0 litre is also available with a six-speed automatic. Both engines are fast, responsive enough and very flexible.
With prices ranging from £19,595 for the entry-level 2 litre 145 SE 4 door rising to £26,295 for the top-of-the range Mazda 6 Saloon 2.2D 175 Sport Nav 4dr, which has just about every gadget and gismo going, selection comes down to affordability and how many gadgets you want. Equipment ranges from daytime running lights, keyless start, air-conditioning, rain-sensing wipers, touchscreen infotainment centre; the list is endless and the choice is yours.
