Throughout the relatively new market of sport utility vehicles, the Nissan Elgrand is considered to be one of the most widely known. This is partially due to the fact that the model and its variants have been in production since 1997. Additionally, the Elgrand has been popularised in the Asian cinematic culture; many famous celebrities are known to own this vehicle. Spanning no less than three different generations, the Elgrand is thought by many to be one of the most premiere vehicles in the current Nissan lineup. Still, it is only now being marketed to the United States. The main target demographic for the Elgrand is the Far East, Europe and the United Kingdom (where it is known as both the Nissan Caravan and the Nissan Homy).
The first generation was known as the E50 and it offered drivers a number of unique amenities; primarily having to do with powerful and yet fuel-efficient engines. There was also the choice between a two- and a four-wheel drive. From 2002, the second generation (or E51) series was released. It was seen to have been competitive with both the Honda Elysion and the Toyota Alphard. The third generation was first released in 2010 and was defined by a slightly modified body type alongside a more advanced transmission system. It should also be noted that the third generation of the Nissan Elgrand will be marketed in the United States alongside an equally impressive Nissan Quest. Due to the high-end nature of the Elgrand, it is expected that this vehicle will remain popular for some time to come.
